Angola has presented the initiatives to ensure food and nutrition security, regulate the market and positively impact on the supply of basic food products.

This was during the 5th General Assembly of Governors of the African Development Bank started on 22 May in Egypt.

The initiatives are those of the National Plan for the Promotion of Grain Production (PLANAGRÃO) and the National Social Protection System Project, estimated at USD 420 million, aimed to provide cash transfers to some 1.6 million Angolan families.

The State Secretary for the Economy, Ivan dos Santos, who took part in the

event, also highlighted the Programme of Support Production, Diversification of Exports and Substitution of Imports (PRODESI), as a tool for economic diversification and on the Food Reserve (REA), which is being implemented to improve food and nutritional security, supply of basic and essential food products, in the desired quantities.

Ivan dos Santos also stressed the National Strategy for Renewable Energy in Angola, which foresees a 10-fold increase in the country’s electricity production capacity, through the installation of solar parks.

The official also said 1 million families could benefit from around 55,000 megawatts to be produced.

Ivan dos Santos assured that the Government is committed to the programmes, projects and plans to avoid food shortages in the coming years.

Angola is represented by a multi-sector delegation at the 5th General Assembly of the Governors of the African Development ending on 26 May.

The event gathers more than 50 African countries.

Angolan News Agency (ANGOP) will soon start a gradual expansion process of its production centres in some municipalities aimed to expand the news coverage to the country’s inland.

The pledge was made by the executive director for Contents of this Media House, José Chimuco, during a meeting with governor of the southern Huila province, Nuno Mahapi.

José Chimuco, who is visiting the southern region (Namibe, Cunene and Huíla), mentioned the municipality of Matala (Huila), which will also be in charge of the others, such as Quipungo, Jamba and Cuvango, as priority.

He also announced plans to create another production centre in Cacula, which will cover the municipalities of Quilengues, Caluquembe and Caconda.

Jose Chimuco requested the intervention of the provincial governor close to the municipal administrations.

ANGOP executive director is carrying out a 14-day tour that covers the provinces of Namibe, Cunene and Huila, as part of preparations for the 6th Expanded Consultative Council of the state-owned media company this year.

Angolan capital, Luanda, and Busan city, South Korea, Thursday signed a twinning agreement providing for the exchange experience in management of the two metropolises, ANGOP has learnt.

The agreement was signed in Busan city by Luanda ‘s provincial governor, Manuel Homem, and the mayor of the South Korean city, Park Hyung-joon.

The twinning pact follows an agreement of intent signed on March 2 of the current year in Luanda, between the parties.

It provides for coordination with municipalities, as well as implementation of sector policies and supervision of the management of primary, secondary and teacher training schools, middle and polytechnic institutes.

It also includes monitoring of urban infrastructures, including transport, energy, telecommunications and sanitation.

The letter of intent also proposes that the parties promote exchanges by organising meetings between officials and civil servants from both sides.

The Luanda and Busan authorities are urged to facilitate the exchange of delegations, through the holding of conferences, events, seminars, fairs, exhibitions and activities developed with the aim of achieving the objective proposed in the letter of intent, providing technical and human resources.

The agreement also covers infrastructure management, sanitation, macro-drainage and environment.

Busan is the second largest city in Korea, a maritime logistics centre in Northeast Asia with its world-class mega-ports and a gateway to the Eurasian continent.
