The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of 37,825 candidates who sat for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series.

A total of 38,114 candidates comprised of 17,389 males and 20,725 females took the examinations.

There were 16 visually impaired candidates.

A statement issued in Accra, Tuesday, and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi said, ‘the results of 289 candidates alleged to have been involved in various cases of examination malpractice have been withheld, pending the conclusion of investigations into the cases of malpractice.’

The malpractices included collusion, impersonation bringing foreign materials, including mobile phones, in the examination hall and seeking external assistance among others.

‘The withheld results of candidates will be released or cancelled based on the outcome of investigations,’ it said.

A total of 1,231candidates who registered for the examination were absent,
the statement said.

Mr Mark Affum Amoamah, President, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), has charged Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) graduates to be ambassadors of integrity in the discharge of their professional duties.

Mr Amoamah urged the graduates to make a mark in the emerging logistics and transportation sector to be competitive globally.

He gave the advice at the graduation ceremony for graduates of the Advance Dipoma and Diploma in Logistics and Transport in Accra, organised in collaboration with GIMPA and CILT.

Mr Amoamah said the graduates had gained not only knowledge but professional ethics to navigate in the world of work.

He urged them to embrace change and make a difference in their fields of discipline, adding, ‘You are a testimony to our vision.’

Mr Amoamah encouraged the graduates to remain steadfast and take advantage of long-term partnerships to foster growth.

The President of CILT admonished the graduates to remain connected and build on networks to a
dvance the development of the logistics and transportation sectors.

He said the relationship between GIMP and CILT was built on a shared vision of excellence to develop the talents of the finest professionals in the supply chain environment.

Mr Carlos Ahenkorah, Member of Parliament, Tema West, commended GIMPA for upholding the standards of excellence in the pursuit of higher education.

He underscored the importance of logistics and transportation in the socio-economic development of the country.

‘Without logistics and transport, the African Continental Free Trade Area and other services could not have been possible,’ he said.

He encouraged them to be open to collaboration and learn from each other to improve the industry, urging them to embrace opportunities and challenges with enthusiasm.

Professor Samuel Bonsu, Rector of GIMPA, said the industry played a key role in facilitating economic development.

The logistics and transport sector, he said? played a significant role during COVID-19, during which
the sector distributed goods and services even though other sectors were halted.

‘We hope you have been transformed better to drive the needed innovation and efficiency in the sector,’ he said.

Professor Charles Amoatey, Director of GIMPA Training and Consulting, said since the introduction of the programme in 2004, 4,000 students had graduated, making a meaningful impact in society.

He said the graduates were taken through artificial intelligence, digitization, machine learning, and entrepreneurship, among others, to be abreast of new developments and ensure efficiency in the sector.

Mr Felix Osei Tutu, on behalf of the graduates, commended the faculty and all who supported them to reach the pinnacle of success.

He appealed to the leadership of CILT to expand the programme across the country, pledging to contribute their knowledge to the development of the sector.

The Eastern Regional Education Directorate in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Ltd, has begun piloting Waste Segregation in nine selected Basic Schools in the New Juabeng South Municipality.

The project is to ensure that plastic Waste is separated from other waste generated in the schools for recycling purposes and to help reduce plastics clogging up storm drains, rivers, and streams.

Mr Godfried Caesar, Eastern Regional Schools Health, and Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinator explained that the key objective was to keep the school environments clean by segregating waste in different dust bins.

The plastic waste such as water sachet and bottles would be sold to recycling companies and monies realized would be used for providing some essential needs of the school to facilitate teaching and learning.

He said the project would help check environmental degradation through pollution of plastics, which were buried in the soils through indiscriminate disposal of waste, especially the plastic waste.

He called
for support and collaboration from organisations to scale up the project to all 52 schools in the Municipality and beyond after a successful piloting.

Madam Faustina Shardey, Eastern Regional Coordinator of Zoomlion Ghana, said the initiative was in line with a campaign dubbed ‘Zero Waste’ ongoing in Accra.

Her outfit presented each of the nine schools with two dust bins, liners, and other accessories to facilitate implementation of the project.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has donated GHC50,000.00 to support the Educational Development Fund of Business Senior High School (BISCO) in Tamale.

The donation was made during the 60th Anniversary celebration of the school.?

Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, Northern Regional Minister, who made the donation on behalf of the Vice President, said it was to support the Old Students Association’s commitment to championing the development of the school through its Educational Development Fund initiative.

?Alhaji Saibu commended the school for its achievements and resilience over the years towards providing quality business education in the country.

He said, ‘In a rapidly growing global economy, business education is crucial in providing students with the solid foundation to navigate the complexities of the world.’

He encouraged the students to take advantage of the policies and programmes implemented by the Government to enhance their growth and development.

The anniversary was on the theme: ‘BISCO@60: Th
e Beacon of Business Education in Northern Ghana’.

Professor Daniel Bagah, Member of the Council of State and alumnus of BISCO, who delivered a speech during the event, advised the students to take advantage of the available opportunities for their development.?

Alhaji Mahama Nurudeen, National President, BISCO Old Students Association, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their support for the anniversary celebration.?

During the event, some outstanding staff members and students of the school were given awards and citations for their dedication and selfless contribution to the overall development of the school.

BISCO, which initially began with only one student as a private institution in 1963, now has a total population of over 3,000 students offering various programmes including Business, Home Economics, General Science and Agricultural Science.

The Right to Play (RTP) Ghana has donated educational materials to some seven schools affected by the recent floods in Anloga and Keta Districts of the Volta Region.

The donation of the items which included 8,000 pieces of exercise books, 1,400 pens, 1,400 pencils, 1,800 manila cards, sellotapes, poster colours and markers was geared towards supporting the flood-affected schools.

In the months of October and November 2023, some basic schools along the Keta Lagoon in the two districts of Anloga and Keta were hit by the flooding disaster occasioned by the Akosombo Dam spillage and torrential rains during the time.

The situation made these schools inaccessible and destroyed their teaching and learning materials.

Madam Veronica Serwaa Ofosu, Education Specialist at RTP Ghana spoke to Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the donation on Friday.

‘We realised some of the RTP-support schools got affected by the recent flooding and lost learning materials which could affect teaching and learning. So, we deem it
fit to come to their aid with these few stationeries to augment what they have lost.’

Mr Gerdhard Avudzivi, Keta Municipal Education Director, receiving the items on behalf of the schools lauded RTP for the tremendous effort they were making to raise the standard of education in the area.

‘The work Right to Play is doing is very marvelous. Their actions are all in positive direction and as a district, we are happy for their partnership so far. Education is a shared responsibility.’

The beneficiary schools in Keta Municipal included Norlivime Roman Catholic Basic School, Atiavi Atime LA Basic School, Wenyagor MA Basic School, Agorvinu RC School and Lawoshime MA Basic School while Fiaxor A.M.E Zion School and Kpordui DA Basic School benefited from Anloga District.

The Business Senior High School (BISCO) in Tamale has celebrated the 60th Anniversary of its establishment, and to recognise its efforts at providing impactful education for students.?

The anniversary, which was on the theme: ‘BISCO@60: The Beacon of Business Education in Northern Ghana,’ was to celebrate the successes, identify challenges, and the need to leverage on the available opportunities for development.

Mr Alhassan Adam Mubarak, the Headmaster, BISCO, at the grand durbar for the occasion in Tamale, said the school had over the years been a guiding light illuminating the path of business education and the overall development of students in the Northern Region.

Mr Mubarak said the school had recorded remarkable improvement in its performance at the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations especially in 2023 where it recorded 74 per cent passes in the four core subjects and a 70 per cent overall pass rate.

?He said the school was the overall champions in the 2023 super zonal boys’ soccer c
hampionship in the region adding that ‘We are also the 2022 winners of Africa Youth Community Challenge on Sustainable Development Goals’.

The school however, faced several challenges including lack of a bus and pick-up vehicle to facilitate staff and students’ administrative duties outside the school, lack of an Assembly Hall, perennial water shortages, and inadequate toilet facilities, he said.

Mr Mubarak appealed to the government, old students, philanthropists and NGOs to support the school to promote effective teaching and learning.?

He expressed appreciation to the Old Students Association, individuals and cooperate bodies for their support towards the development of the school.

Hajia Katumi Nantogmah Attah, the Northern Regional Director of Education, said the school had evolved into an educational powerhouse, shaping the minds of countless students whilst contributing to the development of skilled professionals in business and other areas.

She appealed to all to support the school in its commitme
nt to nurturing the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs.

Naa Alhassan Andani, the Chief of Pushigu,? who was represented at the event, said it was important to embrace innovation and inclusivity whilst striving to prepare students for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.

He advised the students to cherish the legacy they inherited and to carry it forward with pride.

BISCO was establishment in 1963 with just one student as a private institution known as the Northern College of Commerce and was later absorbed into the public school system in 1965.?

It currently has a student population of over 3,000 offering various programmes including Home Economics, Business, Agricultural Science and General Science.

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, has urged stakeholders in the education sector to invest in professional marketing education to shape Ghana’s future.

In a speech read on his behalf, he said through such investments, the country could unlock new opportunities, drive sustainable development, and position itself as a competitive player on the global stage.

The Minister said this at the maiden Graduation Ceremony of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) in Accra.

The ceremony witnessed the passing out of 119 professionals from different fields after successfully completing their CIMG Professional Marketing Qualifications following its launch in April 2021.

Dr Adutwum congratulated them for achieving such a milestone and urged them to work together to harness the transformative power of marketing education for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

‘The future of marketing and marketing education in Ghana is bright and I have no doubt that you will play a pivotal role in shaping it for the gro
wth of Ghana. Go forth with confidence, passion, and a commitment to excellence, and may you achieve all your goals and aspirations in your service to Ghana,’ he said.

He said professional marketing education was a cornerstone for economic growth, innovation, and sustainability in any society, particularly in a dynamic and emerging economy like Ghana, its significance could not be overstated.

Dr Adutwum said it equipped individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to identify market opportunities, understand consumer behaviour and develop strategies to meet consumer needs.

He said by nurturing a pool of competent professional marketers, Ghana could stimulate domestic consumption, attract foreign investment, stir up economic recovery and foster entrepreneurship, all of which were essential for economic expansion and job creation.

‘In today’s interconnected world, international and national competition is fierce. Professional marketing education empowers skilled marketers to lead businesses to compet
e effectively in global markets.’

‘Through understanding global market trends, consumer preferences, and effective branding, Ghanaian firms can expand their reach beyond national borders, boosting exports and contributing to the country’s balance of trade.’

Dr Kasser Tee, National President of CIMG, urged the graduands to manifest the knowledge gained at their workplaces and change the narrative in industry by helping their organisations to build everything they did around the interest of the customer.

He said the only way to run a business sustainably was to build it around the customer by seriously considering customer needs and happenings within the business environment.

‘These, I must say, cannot and should not be based on guess work but on thorough research into all three components of the marketing environment plus researching into the existing and future needs of the customer. Findings of such exercises will then give us pointers on the right strategic direction for the business,’ he said.

The Pre
sident announced the passage of the CIMG Regulations 2023, (L.I. 2479) into force and called on business leaders to champion the continuous professional development of their professional marketing personnel to enable them to remain relevant and play the effective role of promoting and protecting the interest of customers in their organisations.

He encouraged non-marketing business executives to register and participate in CIMG’s certification programmes, either full professional marketing qualifications or the all year round short course certification programmes to enable them acquire knowledge and keep up with new trends in marketing.

Dr Tee admonished graduands with a Bible quote from Matthew 5:16, saying, ‘In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven’.

He, therefore, urged them to let their good works manifest in how they provided marketing support to the various corporates and product brands they managed to bring glory
and pride to CIMG.

The Headteacher of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Basic School at Keta, Madam Rebecca Girraldo Ackumey, has urged girls to make science and mathematics their ‘friendly subjects.’

That, she said, would enable them to build self-confidence in tackling both subjects successfully.

Madam Akumey, interacting with the Ghana News Agency to commemorate this year’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science, said the occasion was to raise awareness on the significant barriers women and girls faced in those subject areas and how to overcome the challenges.

This year’s event was on the theme: ‘Women in Science Leadership: A New Era for Sustainability.’

The day was also aimed at putting a spotlight on the transformative potential inherent in fostering leadership roles for women and girls in science pursuits.

Madam Akumey explained that to honor the day, some maths and science lectures from the Nurses and Midwifery Training College in Keta were invited to teach the female students some practical aspects of sci
ence and its importance.

She said women and girls remained the catalyst for change in the realm of science and should be given the necessary support to excel and impact their society.

‘We need to produce more female doctors, engineers, nurses, lecturers, mathematicians, physicians and others to impact society positively,’ she added.

She urged the public to support the celebration as it served as a reminder that women and girls were indispensable contributors to science and technological communities, emphasising the need to fortify and amplify their participation.

The gap between the female and their male counterparts had persisted for far too long at all levels and should be addressed without further delay, Madam Akumey said.

She charged women and girls to accept leadership roles to enhance gender equality and empowerment.

The public, teachers, heads of institutions, among others must encourage and support women and girls to do away with fear and develop the confidence of studying maths and science for
their own benefits and that of society.

The Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School (SHS) at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality secured a remarkable victory in the Ghana Cocoa Board’s (COCOBOD) inaugural inter-schools quiz after by amassing 36 points. ?

The St James Seminary/SHS at Abesim, near Sunyani, came second with 33 points, while Twene Amanfo Senior High Technical School (Sunyani) was third with 30 points and Notre Dame Girls SHS (Fiapre) secured the fourth spot with 22.5 points. ?

The competition, held at the forecourt of the Cocoa House in Sunyani, was organized by the Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of COCOBOD, which was part of activities to mark the National Chocolate Day.? ?

The SDA SHS received a cash prize of GhC3,000.00, St James SHS/Seminary had GhC2, 000.00, Twene Amanfo SH/Technical School and Notre Dame Girls SHS had GhC 1,500.00 each. All the schools had assorted cocoa products in addition to the cash prizes. ?

Mr Michael P. K Asumanu, the Regional Administrator of COCOBOD, said the competition was to promote the consumpt
ion of cocoa products and raise awareness about their benefits for the youth and the general populace. ?

Madam Esther Boateng, the Deputy Regional Manager of the Seed Production Division, COCOBOD, who was the quiz mistress, commended the participants for their exemplary performance and encouraged them to explore the world of cocoa and its economic advantages. ?

Mrs Mavis Danso Darko, the Bono Regional Coordinator for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM), expressed optimism?that the competition would become an annual event, serving as a valuable educational platform for students to learn about cocoa and its benefits.?
