The Nandom Municipal Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) has called on the people to sustain their efforts towards maintaining peace in the municipality before, during and after the 2024 general election.
It said the proximity of the Nandom Municipality to Burkina-Faso where there had been recorded cases of insurgencies and the risk of the inflow of people from that country into the municipality had made it imperative for more efforts to protect the Municipality from turmoil.
Reverend Dr. Stephen Akoya, the Chairman of the Nandom IPDC, made the call in Nandom at during the phase two meeting of the Committee.
The meeting was organised by the Nandom Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on the ‘Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism Action in the Northern Regions of Ghana (PCVE)’ project funded by the European Union (EU).
He explained that violent extremism had no human face and advanced the unconditional need for the prevalence of sustainable peace before, duri
ng and after the 2024 elections.
‘Let us dialogue, ‘jaw, jaw’ not blow, blow’ and scrutinise critically and with circumspection, our attitudes, actions, aspirations, mindsets, perceptions, utterances, behaviour or conduct in word, deed, and print,’ Rev. Dr. Akoya indicated.
Naa Vitalis Yelyang, the Vice Chairman of the Nandom IPDC, urged the committee members to recognize the importance of their work in maintaining peace before, during and after the 2024 election.
He encouraged them to extend the peace campaign to their constituents and groups to ensure every individual in the constituency subscribed to the peace message.
Mr Victor Nuworkpor, the Upper West Regional Director of the NCCE, said the objective of the IPDC was to help avert violent extremism and promote peaceful coexistence and national cohesion.
He therefore urged the committee members to work towards safeguarding the peace of the constituency, the region and the nation.
Mr Nuworkpor stressed the need for Ghanaians to safeguard the relati
ve peace Ghana was enjoying as the 2024 general election inches closer so as not to mar the international recognition of Ghana as a beacon of peace in the West Africa sub-region.
Mr Issahaque Tivengnang Angme, the Nandom Municipal Director of the NCCE, noted that the IPDC was aimed at promoting collaboration with other stakeholders in averting violent extremism and promoting a peaceful coexistence and national cohesion.
Inspector Ankora Enoch Delali of the Nandom Police Command said all elections in Ghana were governed by rules and regulations and urged the members of the committee and the public to resort to the right channels to address election-related and other grievances.
