Pusiga NCCE holds second phase of Inter-Party Dialogue Committee meeting


The Pusiga District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held phase two of the Inter-party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meeting, to promote peaceful coexistence and avert violent extremism.

The day’s meeting, held at Pusiga in the Upper East Region, was to enable stakeholders in the area to collaborate effectively to confront issues of violent extremism.

Participants included representatives of the Electoral Commission (EC), political parties, chiefs and queen mothers, religious leaders, youth groups, and persons living with disabilities.

Topics discussed included monitoring and reporting threats and vulnerabilities to violent extremism, ways to detect youth radicalisation and signs of recruitment, as well as mediation and resolution of local conflicts.

Mr Yakubu Seidu, the Pusiga District Director of the NCCE, called on stakeholders particularly, those with the various political parties, to endeavour to put the interest of their communities above their individual political
interests.

Dr Listowel Akolgo, who was the Resource Person, urged the EC to update stakeholders in the district on the alleged illegal transfer of voters from Tamale South to the Pusiga District.

He also spoke against violence during elections and advised community members to be alert and not allow themselves to be used as instruments to foment trouble in this election year.

Mr Abdulai Zuberu, the Pusiga District Chief Executive, advised the community members to unite as a people, irrespective of their political inclinations, and to respect the laws of the State to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.
