United Nations: The UN Security Council (UNSC) has unanimously adopted a resolution to extend sanctions against armed groups in the Central African Republic (CAR) until July 31, 2026. The resolution aims to curb activities that undermine peace within the region.

According to Nam News Network, Resolution 2789 was passed with the consensus of all 15 council members. It mandates member states to prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale, or transfer of arms and related materials to armed groups and associated individuals in the CAR.

Additionally, the resolution prolongs the mandate of the panel of experts who aid in implementing these sanctions until August 31, 2026. The continuation of these efforts underscores the UNSC’s commitment to restoring stability in the Central African Republic.
